Aim trainers are a complicated subject. Some people say that aim training is one of the best ways to improve your aim. But on the other hand, some people say that practicing in-game is the best way to improve your aim and nothing is as good as the game itself. After all, practice makes perfect right?
Playing The Game Is The Best Practice?
First of all, 100%. Playing the game and improving in-game, taking fights, tracking enemies, random flicks and all that is the best way to improve. You can’t practice movement, recoil control, peeks, spray transfers, game-sense, map knowledge, and everything that is engine correlated. This is the main drawback aim trainers have.
But before you click away, let’s take a look at the nature of today’s most popular games.
The Problem?
The most popular FPS games today, are Battle Royales like Warzone, PUBG and Apex Legends, and Round based games like CS:GO, Valorant and Rainbow Six Siege. If we analyze, the amount of encounters with enemies, the amount of in-game action you have each round, you will notice that you are not aiming as much as you hoped so.
In other words, you are not practicing your aim 100% of the time. You have a lot of downtime in these games. You may loot for minutes until you find an enemy. You might die for a few rounds the moment you peek, etc. And in the end, your aim activity is just very low compared to the time you put into the game.
But in an aim trainer, this is different. You practice 100% of the time. 30 minutes of aim training can be like 2 hours of in-game practice. And aim does translate between games. That’s the main key, the reason why utilizing aim trainers is important.
Better Aim In Weeks, Not Months
Thanks to aim trainers, you can improve your aim way faster. You can put in 30 minutes everyday, and you can be sure, that these 30 minutes are 100% aim related. Your practice is way more meaningful because it is a focused practice. That’s the power aim trainers have. And that’s the reason I recommend everyone I know, to start aim training. You will have a better aim in weeks, not years. You will isolate every aim skill, focus on your weaknesses and get better way faster as a result.
But even playing the game, is not practice. You can sink in hundreds of hours and still suck (Everyone knows that guy with 1k hours in CS:GO and still hard-stuck Gold Nova). Why is that? Just because you play, does not mean you are practicing. Playing is fun, but learning from your mistakes, actually being focused and 100% in the zone (How To Be More Focused), analyzing your game, measuring yourself, that’s when you practice. Aim trainers do exactly that.
You are forced to focus on hitting targets. You are measured by scores. You are practicing aiming skills, you’ve never practiced before. That’s how you improve your aim.
Work On Your Weaknesses
Another big benefit, aim trainers have over in-game practice, is that you can work on your weaknesses. If you know that your tracking is very good but your click-timing needs some improvement, then go ahead and do some click-timing focused routine. Take a look at the Best Routine For Any FPS Game.
Working only on one specific aim skill in-game is not possible. But with aim trainers it is. You can isolate specific aiming elements that you can’t work on, like flicks, for example, (How To Get Better Flicks) or tracking (How To Improve Tracking), and improve them quickly.
What About Deathmatch Or Workshop?
I already hear people saying that we have deathmatch, workshops, custom lobbies and we can train there. There is no downtime there. And I somewhat agree. If you are playing CS:GO, for example, it has a massive workshop of maps to choose from, and there are very good quality maps there. Unless you want to practice a specific skill like flicks or tracking (Maybe there are workshop map for these aswell), I would say aim trainers are not nessecary. CS:GO workshop is so good, that it even has Valorant players coming to train or to warm-up. So yeah, CS:GO got it all covered.
But most of the games, do not have a rich workshop or a good practice range. Therefore, utilizing aim trainers is a good idea. You should decide if the game’s tools are enough to make a good aim training routine. Spoiler alert, most of the times it doesn’t.

Conclusion
In short, aim trainers are 100% worth it. They provide the tools to be able to be fully dedicated and focused on the practice. You can isolate specific aiming skills that you’ve never worked on before. Therefore, improving your aim way faster than just playing the game.
But remember, aim trainers won’t help with game-sense, map knowledge, recoil control, movement and everything that is game-correlated, so make sure to not neglect that aspect as well, as aiming is only 1 part of the equation.
