You are trying to maximize the effectiveness of your aim routine. I am in, I am also trying to figure out the magic formula for the best aiming routine. So you chose a routine, you are sticking with it, and you are playing 1-2 hours a day of training. But should you do it everyday? Every other day?
In short, there are no studies behind this if taking breaks is necessary for aim training. Start aim training everyday and see how it works for you. If you feel like you need a break and you are burned out, take a break and practice aiming only 6-5 days a week.
Everyone Is Different
Aim training is pretty taxing on your nervous system, and if you practice more than you can, you might hit a plateau or even start to see decline in you Aimlab \ Kovaaks scores. But don’t worry. You just need to get the right amount of rest for you. Some people might need a break after aim training for a week and some might not. You should tailor your aim routine to your needs and make it comfortable for you. Imagine trying to build a muscular body and just being in the gym 24/7. We all know it won’t work. After an hour and a half that’s not effective anymore and you need sleep. You train and you rest. That’s how it goes.
I would say you should start with aim training everyday and see how it goes. If you feel like in the 6th or 7th day you are too tired and just not focused on the routine, take a break. You need it. If you are aim training everyday for a month and you are still improving? Then that’s great. Keep it up! Everyone is different.
How Do I Know If I Need A Break?
Do you know these days, when you aim train and you miss a lot, are not focused and just getting bad grades? That’s when you should take a break. It might be just because you are not feeling that well. Those days happen. But, it might mean you are over training and you are burned out. I notice that in myself, after training everyday for sometime, I hit a plateau and my scores start declining. That’s when I know I should take a break. I might even take a week off, and come back better than ever. But that’s really extreme, and I would say it’s more laziness than productive. But, if you go on vacation, or work is really overwhelming this week. Take a break, you will not lose your aiming skills in a week and breaks can be really beneficial sometimes.
My Ideal Routine
In-game training would be something like deathmatch servers, custom matches etc.
Aim trainers are Kovaaks, Aimlab or Osu. (I am not a big advocate of Osu though)
I would say my ideal routine if the following:
- Monday – Focus on in-game training.
- Tuesday – Focus on aim trainers.
- Wednesday – Focus on in-game training.
- Thursday – Focus on aim trainers.
- Friday – Focus on in-game training.
- Satarday – Focus on aim trainers.
- Sunday – rest \ play the game.
Of course you should play the game more than aim training and you should play the game before \ after aim training. I would say after, so you could tax your nervous system real good and go to sleep \ rest and recover.
This is just an example and there are no limits to what you can do with your aiming routine. You can play everyday for 3 months and then take a week’s break. You can take a break once a week. The most important thing is, just make sure you are consistent with your aiming routine and you are not over training. If you hit a plateau, you might want to take a break. It will do wonders for you.
