You are playing Valorant. You are holding an angle. You know there is an enemy there. The tension grows. He doesn’t have much time. It is 1v1 and he needs to plant. Tick-tock. Time runs out. You wait for him, the moment he peeks, he dies. Suddenly you get shot from the left side. tututututu. (Yeah, how the hell can I mimic Valorant bullets sound?) You flick into him…
but you miss. You miss it by a tiny pixel and you die. So now you are here, asking me, how to improve your flick shots. First of all, what are flick shots?
What Are Flick Shots?
Flick shot is a very fast crosshair movement from point A to point B. You rely on your muscle memory to move your crosshair precisely to a target. The problem with flick shots, is that you sacrifice precision for speed. The movement itself is very fast. Therefore, the chance of you missing the shot goes higher. Of course, there are ways to practice that and I will cover that as well.
The Best Way To Improve Flick Shots
The best way to practice flicks is through an aim trainer like Kovaaks or Aimlab (Kovaaks Vs Aimlab). Imagine playing Warzone or Apex Legends. You might hit a flick or two in a match. Maybe more, maybe less. You barely practice this skill. Therefore, we all suck at flicking. But it doesn’t have to be like that. We have aim trainers and we can isolate specific aiming skills and work specifically on them. This is huge.
First, I will give you the best maps for every aim trainer and then I will tell you how to train your flicks effectively.
Kovaaks
- 1wall6targets TE – The classic. Great for improving your flicks. Pretty easy because of the the size of its target. Builds speed.
- 1wall6targets small – Same scenario with smaller targets. Now you are working on your precision and micro-adjustments. Builds Accuracy.
- Target Acquisition Flick – Another great scenario that was made specifically for speed. Pretty hard though.
- Tile Frenzy 180 Strafing Tracking – Another great flicking scenario that introduces tracking to the equation.
- Target Switching 180/360 – Same as above.
- VoxTargetSwitch – Target switching scenario with small targets.
Aimlab
- Spider Shot Ultimate – One of the best maps to practice flicks in Aimlab.
- Six Shot Ultimate – It is the same as 1wall6targets small.
- Reflex Shot Ultimate/Precision – Practices your reflexes and flicks.
- FPS Coach Circle Wrist Flick Training – Workshop map from RonRamboKim Fpscoach that was made to practice 45,90 and 180 flicks.
How To Train Your Flicks
So now, you have the best maps to practice flicking in your favorite aim trainer. But how to train effectively and make sure you nail down the flicks?
Forget about speed. All you care about now is precision. You want to perform each task with 95%+ precision. The speed comes later. Speed is worth nothing if you miss your shots, right? I want you to strive for perfection. Your speed will increase by itself. Just keep maintaining over 95% precision.
I see so many people running to Gridshot and start working on speed and fast flicking, but they don’t realize it forms bad habits. If you flick and constantly need to adjust, that’s a bad sign. I want you to draw lines between the targets, go smooth and slow. Increase your speed step by step.
Remember, it is all about muscle memory. You want to train your flicks to be an uncoious reaction. Once you actually learn and really internalize the position of your target, your cursor, the distances, the speed, and all that, you start to hit flick shots way more often and way more consistently. It is all about practice and repetition.
Make sure you really nail down the precision of your flicks. That’s why playing scenarios with small targets is a must (Sixshot,1wall6targets small).
In short, how to improve your flicking and hit more flick shots? Isolate flick shots in your aim training and work specifically on that. Play 1wall6targets, target switching 180/360 or Spidershot and Sixshot if you are on Aimlab. Start slow and steady. Precision is key. Aim for at least 95%+ accuracy. Then, gradually increase your speed.
Extra Tips
Mouse Sensitivity
Mouse sensitviity, plays a huge role here. Playing with a wrong sensitivity might hurt your flicks. It is way harder to flick precisely to a target’s head, with a high sensitivity. I can’t stress enough the importance of a good sensitivity. How To Find The Best Sensitity For You!
Focus
Time and time again, I stress the importance of focus during aiming routines. And for a good reason. Training without focus is useless. You should be 100% dedicated to aim training 100% of the time. How To Improve Focus While Gaming.
Good Mouse
Get a good mouse. Playing on a cheap mouse won’t track and won’t be precise, and your flicks won’t be as consistent. It will hurt your aim in every aspect, especially flicks. It won’t track your mouse as precisely. I recommend getting Logitech G Pro.
Don't Neglect Other Aim Skills
Flicks are only 1 part of the equation. There are many more aspects to aim training. Make sure you focus on every one of them. Otherwise, it will hurt you in the long run. It will be a bottleneck for your improvement. I suggest checking out the Best Aim Routine For Any FPS Game.
