Being focused, often called being in the zone, is crucial for our improvement. Most of us underestimate the power of staying present. But the top 1%, the professional esports players know how much focus and staying present is crucial for you. If you really want to improve, reach the top , you can’t be mindlessly playing, training etc. You have to be fully engaged in your gameplay in order to gain from your training. Playing 30 minutes but being fully immersed is way better than 2 hours of unfocused training. Here, I am going to tell you how to improve your focus while gaming and I will briefly explain the science of focus.

Staying focused is not an easy task. It is because you can’t focus, at the moment you want to focus. It is not something you just do. It is not at the click of a button. It mostly comes from a sense of urgency.
Imagine yourself taking a serious test in college that you’ve studied to, for days, hell, even weeks. Now, the day of the exam comes, you go to college. You take a sit. You get the papers. And you take the test. How are you feeling? A bit nervous but focused. You are in the zone. You are present and you can’t think about anything else at that moment. Why is that?
Fear
You’ve studied to the test for weeks. You are focused because you are afraid you are going to fail the test. You are afraid that you won’t like your grade. It makes you focused. The school system makes you afraid. But, it helps you with immersion. You are truly in the test.
Passion
You want to succeed in the test. You want that A grade badly. You’ve studied for weeks and you want to get an excellent grade and keep going. It is your motivation. You are passionate because you want the best grade you can get.
How To Apply It?
When we are talking about fear, you should find something that encourages you to stay focused on the game and your training. Something that you are afraid of. Something that you will always remember and that will give you the necessary motivation to continue. For example, my fear, is that I will check my KD and I will see a downtrend. Yes, I want to keep improving. Being average is my fear. I won’t allow a single person into the lobby who is better than me. Even staying in the same skill level. I want to get better. That’s why I am here.
When we are talking about passion, again, you should find something that encourages you to stay focused on the game and your training. Something that you will be passionate about. This is easy. I am passionate about being the best player in the lobby. Being the best player I can be. I love the improvement. I love the process and it keeps me motivated and focused on the path.

How To Strengthen Your Focus
Now that you’ve got your basics in place, we’ve got to strengthen our mental influence from the outside. Do not skip these, as without most of these practices, your focus won’t be as good.
Diet
I’ve said it so many times. But eat healthy. Eating healthy has so many benefits that I would need to open a brand new website just to cover every benefit. Don’t eat junk, get your vitamins, stay hydrated, eat your greens, get enough sunlight, and stay lean. Simple as that. Your whole life improves just by staying fit, and eating healthy. Remember, a healthy body is a healthy mind.
Sleep
Everyone knows that sleep is king, so why the majority of the population get about 7 hours of sleep? I don’t know. Anyways, sleep is very important. It is the same as diet. It will change your life. Get at least 8 hours of sleep. It will help you remain-focused. It will improve your aim and your training session. You will be calmer, and therefore less tilted. And the list goes on and on.
Meditation
There are so many studies about the importance of meditation and its benefits. It helps with focus immensely. It improves your memory and attention span. Allows for better sleep and therefore better focus. Increases learning concentration and reduces stress anxiety and depression. Do I need to add something? Start meditating. 10 minutes a day. Even 5 minutes a day is enough. Just start already.

Exercise
I feel like I am writing a self-improvement guide. But really, exercise. It makes you calmer, more confident, reduces stress, anxiety and all the good things meditation, sleep and healthy diet do for you. If you start doing all of these practices. You will be a different person (and a different aimer and gamer in just 1 month).
Take Breaks
You know those classes in college that are more than 2 hours long? You must know how exhausting they are right? Imagine playing for that amount of time. Your focus “storage” depletes and you have to recharge. Take breaks, rest. Even just 10 minutes every couple sessions and you are set. Taking breaks is necessary to avoid fatigue. It refreshes your senses and increases your concentration.
