We all find ourselves getting too angry while playing our favorite game. It happens way too often and it makes us perform worse and because of that we lose games that we shouldn’t lose. We don’t want any kind of that stuff  here. We always want to remain calm and ready to strike. But  Yaron, how can I be calm when my teammates are throwing the game? How can I be calm when I am constantly dying to campers? That’s what you learn now.

What Is Tilt?

Tilt is basically losing control due to negative emotions like anger, frustration, and outrage. Causing you to behave erratically. Behaving against your will of judgement. Therefore, causing you to suffer from severe consequences like: your aim worsens, your game sense is not on point anymore. You are not communicating clearly with your teammates, etc. Basically, it makes you perform worse, and  you lose games as a result.

There are some studies that suggest that tilt comes from strong feelings of injustice. Like losing due to bad luck, bad teammates, and even bad opponents (campers and sweaty players). It evokes negative emotions within you, like anger and frustration. Therefore, causing you to play more aggressively, more erratically, and generally just worse.

Change Your Mindset

Tilt, mostly comes from the wrong mindset. Once you adopt the right mindset, you will reduce the amount of times you will be tilted. Let’s go over the key mindsets you should adopt.

Realize What You CAN'T Control

Realizing what you can’t control can solve almost 80% of your in-game tilt. You are losing due to bad teammates? You should focus on yourself and yourself only. Your gameplay is the only thing you can control. And the only thing that matters, to be honest. Staying consistent and improving yourself is the best way to climb the ladder. Sometimes you can get bad teammates. Sometimes you get good ones. The only teammate you get 100% of the time is you. Make sure you are the best player you can be. You should adopt the 40-20-40 mindset.

40-20-40

The 40-20-40 mindset says that 40% of your games are lost before you’ve even started. This can happen by bad teammates, good opponents, bad luck etc.
Another 40% of your games are won immideatly. Good teammates, bad opponents, etc.
The rest, 20% are the most important. These games are games that are dictated by you. You are going to be the reason you either lose or win the game. You are the one who matters. So focus on improving yourself and on your gameplay and you will win 60% of your matches. That’s what’s important. You can’t get mad at things that are out of your control.

Surround Yourself With Good Teammates

If your teammates are always tilting, always getting angry with your gameplay and keep blaming you for their deaths. You should find some new teammates. I am a serious believer in “show me your friend and i will tell you who you are”. No wonder you are getting tilted and frustrated if you have a toxic environment. This needs to change. You should play with teammates that are uplifting to you and are positive. This is very hard, maybe you are playing with your childhood friends, or these are your only friends you can play with. But communication is key and you should talk to them. You should explain your reasoning and thoughts, and it can drastically change your gameplay dynamics for the better. Maybe they don’t even notice they are doing so. You can even send them this article 🙂

Learn From Your Mistakes

What do you mean “learn from my mistakes”? I want to get less irritated by gaming and improve my self overall. I am too mad to learn from my mistakes. That’s exactly the point. If you are dying continuously to campers, maybe you are doing something wrong? Maybe you are not checking every corner?
You should analyze your gameplay. The moment you get mad. Take a deep breath. And see why you are mad. And fix this mistake. If it is something you can’t control. There is no reason to get mad. We’ve talked about this. But if it is something within your control. Analyze the mistake, and fix it. You should swallow your pride and try to see your mistakes and learn from them. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Be calm, this is a process. And it should be a fun one, too.

Take A Break

If you are playing for 6 hours straight. You are losing your focus, you are not sharp anymore, and you are probably tired. Of course you are going to get annoyed easily. You’ve sat down for 6 hours straight with no breaks. You have to let yourself recharge. You have to rest and get refreshed. Breaks are necessary to avoid tilting. Even the moment you start to notice some tilt in your behavior. Stop gaming, and take a walk. Let the sun hit your skin. Eat something healthy. Talk with a loved one, etc. Every hour, stand-up, walk around the house. Let your eyes and mind rest for a couple of minutes. And then come back refreshed and ready to slay and stomp some plebs.

Healthy Lifestyle

Good life and good mentality lead to good gaming. I’ve said it so many times and you are going to read it once again.

  • Sleep for 8 hours
  • Shower daily, take care of your hygiene.
  • Eat healthy.
  • Hydrate.
  • Exercise.
  • Meditate

These are the fundamentals of a good life. Everyone you admire has these in check. Make sure you do too. Every one of these bullet points is key to being a good, calmer, focused gamer. Make sure you nail each one of these. These will not only change your gameplay. It will change your life. Remember, a healthy body is a healthy mind.

You Are The Best When You Are Calm

This should be your motivation. You are playing better when you are calmer. You are more focused. You are less prone to mistakes and your mechanics are on point. Make sure you remember that the next time you are tilted! Staying calm is one of the best ways to keep win streaks going.

How to stop tilt? To sum up, the best ways to stop tilting are:

  • Realize What You Can’t Control
  • Apply The 40-20 40 Rule
  • Surround Yourself With The Right Teammates
  • Learn From Your Mistakes
  • Take Breaks
  • Healthy Lifestyle – Sleep, Eat healthy, Hydrate And Exercise.
