The mouse grip. Because you control your aim movement with your hand and mouse connection, it is very important to make sure you have the right mouse grip for you so you can control the mouse the best way you can. The positioning of your fingers, fingers arch and your palm placement, can make a huge difference in your gameplay.

Today, I will cover as simply as I can, the pros and cons of each mouse grip, and I will tell exactly how to find the best mouse grip for you.

Palm Grip

Palm grip

The palm grip is the most used grip at that time because it is the most natural grip for everyday PC users. Your hand is relaxed and your entire palm rests on the mouse or on the mouse pad. All of your mouse movements are being done by your arm.

The palm grip is a classic. It was once thought, that the palm grip is the best grip out there, due to its stability. Its stability comes from using your palm to stabilize your mouse. The problem with this mouse grip, is its mobility. You can’t use the extra room that you might get from arching your fingers, or just by using your fingers to micro-correct and micro-flick.

Pros

  • Very Relaxed And Natural – As I said, most of the PC users are likely using this grip. Therefore, it is very natural for us, to use this as a gaming grip as well. It is a huge bonus, because as I said in my other blogs, tensing up can mess up your aim.
  • Very Stable – Utilizing your palm grip, means that you are more stable, as you cover more “real estate” on the mouse. Therefore, you have more control on it.

Cons

  • Less Precision – Not using your fingers means that you have less room for micro-movements. Doing a micro-flick, means that you have to move your whole arm. Naturally, being precise while doing that is harder, than just moving the tip of your fingers.
  • Less Speed – Again, using your arm to do all the movements means you are not utilizing everything you can (fingers) to move around. Therefore, palm grip is generally the “slowest” mouse grip out there.

Fingertip Grip

fingertip grip

The fingertip grip is the least popular grip. It is the same as a claw grip, but without the palm support. Your fingertips, are the only thing that touches the mouse. It is not as stable as some other grips. But it is the most accurate and fastest grip.

The hardest grip, the fingertip. Your fingertips are the only thing that controls the mouse. Because of the high tension, it allows for high speed and precision. There is a lot of freedom with this grip, but it is very hard to master though. Definitely the highest skill ceiling between the 3, main grips.

Pros

  • Very Fast – Because all of your movement is being done with your fingers, it is just naturally way faster than the other grips.
  • Very Accurate – Fingertips only allow for a large range of motion and a whole line of movements you can do. Therefore, it is the most accurate grip in the pack.

Cons

  • Not Natural – As I said, the natural grip is the palm grip. Putting only your fingertips on the mouse as your mouse and hand connection is not natural. As a result, it is harder to get used to and master it.
  • Not Stable – Not using the palm means that there is less contact between our hand and our mouse. Which as a result, causes the mouse movements to be less stable than a palm grip for example.

Claw Grip

The claw grip is the second most popular mouse grip. This is very similar to a palm grip. You start by resting your palm on the mouse or the mouse pad, and then, you only put fingertips on the mouse buttons. Here, you can get stableness of your palm, and the agility of your fingertips.

Imagine the palm grip and fingertip grip getting married. This is their son. It is the best of both worlds. Using your fingers for micro-movements and precision, and palm for stability. I believe that this is the most popular mouse grip by the pro players. It is very versatile, allowing micro-adjustments and long movements.

Pros

  • Very Versatile – Being able to use your fingers and your palm, allows more freedom between micro and macro movements.
  • Fast – Being able to use your fingers, allows for a faster and more precise agile movement.
  • Stable – Utilizing the palm, means you are very stable when using this grip. Not as stable as the palm grip, but way more stable than fingertip grip.

Cons

  • Strain – The arch of your fingers can cause strain. Because you are not fully relaxed, you will tire faster and be fatigued faster.

The Best Grip

The best grip is the Claw grip. It uses fingertips as well as your palm, meaning that you get the whole functionality out of your hand. You use your palm to stabilize the mouse and use your fingertips to make quick micro-adjustments. Claw grip just offers the highest amount of control you can get with your hand.

As I said before, it is the combination of the palm grip and fingertip grip. It is the most effective and allows for high versatility and flexibility.

Comfort Is Key

Just because technically, the best grip is a claw grip, doesn’t mean that you have to change your grip. The number one thing that matters is comfort. If you are using a palm grip and you are comfortable with it. So be it. That’s the only thing that matters.

Never force a grip, unless you are not using one of the 3 main grips and you are using something weird as hell. But I’ve never met something in real life who uses grips like this or this, so I am sure you will be fine.

Remember, there are top aimers with any type of grip. So make sure you just put in the time, practice and get better. Even I, use the fingertip grip. Although I technically said that the best grip is the claw grip, and I 100% believe what I say. I just don’t find it comfortable for me. After years of experience with the fingertip, I can’t come back. And that’s okay.

Experiment with it. Try different grips, see what you like best. See what feels comfortable and natural. And stick with that. In the end, consistency is key here. As long as you are using one of the 3 main grips or simply a variation of it, you will be fine.

Make sure to get a comfortable mouse as well.  BEST Gaming Mice According To Pro Players.

Conclusion

The best grip is the Claw grip. It uses fingertips as well as your palm, meaning that you get the whole functionality out of your hand. You use your palm to stabilize the mouse and use your fingertips to make quick micro-adjustments. But, the key to choosing a good mouse grip is comfort.
