You put in the hours. You practice, you play a lot. But your aim is not improving? I feel you. It is so frustrating to work hard and see 0 results. But we are going to fix it. Together. It is my mission for the next couple of minutes to put you on the right track and finally improve your aim.

First, we have to understand when do we improve our aim.

When Do We improve?

We improve when we are challenged and focused. That means that we need to set up the right environment and have the right mindset for optimal growth and faster improvement. Being focused while aiming and training is critical when trying to improve. Being challenged is another significant part of improving.

It basically means that we won’t get better just by playing the game. So we need to set up the right environment for that. Actually, that’s one of the reasons in Are Aim Training Worth It? why aim trainers are worth it. They provide the right environment for you to improve your aim. But we will get there shortly. So first, let’s talk about focus.

Focus

Imagine playing for hours but not being focused throughout the whole gaming session. You are just playing on auto-pilot. Do you think you will actually get better? Do you think your brain learned something new? The answer is no.

You have to be 100% focused during the gaming sessions, from the big things like actually thinking about positioning and flanks to the tiny things like consciously aiming at your targets. Yep, you must always consciously aim at the target and think about each shot. It is hard to describe as I am not an expert or scientist but just being in the present and thinking about your actions and mouse movements is the first step.

Once you actually start to pay attention to your crosshair, and mouse movement and not just let yourself auto-pilot in this segment, you will see a huge improvement.

There are a few ways to increase your focus, and these are:

  • Eat Healthy And Stay Hydrated
  • Get Enough Sunlight
  • Sleep Well For 8+ Hours
  • Meditate
  • Exercise
  • Take Breaks

There are much more complex things behind the science of focus, so check out How To Be More Focused While Gaming.

So you now are focused during your gaming sessions. You let yourself learn and use your brain. Great, now, let’s set up the right environment for improvement.

The Right Environment

The right environment for improvement is challenging and focused-heavy. You can get better aim just by playing the game, especially if you are focused during the gameplay, but it will be slower than the following methods. Especially if you are playing Tactical Shooters or Battle Royales, as in these games, you have a lot of downtime between fights, so you don’t have enough time to practice your aim in a gaming session.

  • Utilize An Aim Trainer – As I’ve said before, aim trainers provide the necessary environment for improvement. You are fully dedicated and focused on the practice while getting challenged. I 100% recommend aim trainers and aim training in general as your aim will get better way faster than just playing the game. Check out The Complete Aim Training Guide: The Godlike Aim Journey.
  • Deathmatch – Deathmatch is another excellent place to practice. You see an enemy every 5-10 seconds. After all, we learn through repetition. If you hit the same shot ten times, you will get better at it.
  • Custom Lobbies – Some games have custom lobbies with many settings available so you can make the set up the perfect environment for you to practice. For example, in Warzone, I practice in custom lobbies with bots, which is very effective.

Again, I want to emphasize that you can get a better aim just by playing the game. But it won’t be as fast as these methods.

It is essential that you are constantly challenged during practice. It is a little harder to do in custom lobbies or deathmatch, so it will mostly fit the Aim trainer category. Make sure to choose scenarios that are not easy for you. That’s one of the main problems with Gridshot. It is just too easy and unrealistic. As a result, you don’t get challenged when playing Gridshot and don’t improve as much. That’s why I keep recommending Aimer7 Routine or Voltaic routines. They thought about it and made different scenarios for different skill levels. After all, the pro player shouldn’t play the same scenarios as the beginner, right? (Best Aim Routine For Any FPS Game)

But, make sure it is not too hard either. It will be time wasted or, in the worst case, can develop some bad habits.

So now you know how to practice. let’s cover some things that might be stopping you from getting a better aim.

Make Sure You Are Not Bottlenecked

Some things might be stopping you from achieving a god-like aim. The most obvious one is your setup. Are you playing with a good gaming mouse that is comfortable for you and can track your mouse movements properly? (Top 5 Gaming Mice In 2022) Are you playing on a 144hz monitor? Do you have a large mousepad? Do you reach above 100 FPS? (Depends on the game). Basically, make sure your setup is good and comfortable for you.

Make sure you have the right sensitivity. So many people play with such a high sensitivity it makes my blood rise in temperature. REDUCE YOUR SENSITIVITY GUYS. Anyways, here is How To Find The Perfect Sensitivity For You. This is a five-sentence paragraph, but holy, I think one of the most important paragraphs in this article. Please, for the love of god, lower your sensitivity and make sure it is comfortable for you.

Another thing that may be stopping you from achieving a good aim is game sense and movement. It is a widespread phenomenon as a bad movement can break your game. A flawed thinking process will increase your death count. I find myself dying to someone with 1 HP, saying, oh man, if I just had a better aim. But for real, I wouldn’t be in this situation if I had a better game sense. Because we are talking about aim here, I don’t want to dive too deep, but this is something you should keep in mind. The aim is just a part of your gaming skills.

Review Yourself

Watch VODs and see what is happening and what is going wrong. Try to understand what your bottleneck is and what you need to work on. For example, you may be constantly over-flicking and can’t hit these shots (How To Get Better At Flicking). It may be that you can’t track enemies, and you have to work on tracking (How To Improve Tracking). Maybe have a shaky aim, and you need to work on smoothness (How To Remove Shaky And Jittey Aim).

Aiming skills are a combination of skills, and lacking in one, can massively drag you down. By acknowledging your weaknessess, you can start quickly working on them and fixing them.

You Are Actually Improving

Improvement is slow, especially after the “newbie gains” phase. It takes time. And sometimes, you won’t see the difference in your practice right after it. Make sure you realize that it may be in your head, and you are just not patient enough. You will see it. Just keep grinding.

On the same note, I want to add that you must realize it takes time and consistent effort to improve your aim. So make sure you are consistent, practice every day, and put in the hours. That’s how it works. Every pro player sunk thousands of hours and improved as a result. It takes time. It is worth it, though!

This is bigger than you think, as you might be looking too hard for results and be frustrated, which can cause you to play worse. This is pretty common so make sure you stick to the practice and believe in yourself.

Final Words

Your aim is generally not improving due to improper environment and mindset. In order to improve, you have to be constantly challenged and focused. That’s why Deathmatches and aim trainers are highly recommended for aim improvement. Plus, it is wise to invest in good peripherals. For example, a poor mouse, 60hz monitor, and high sensitivity can destroy your aim.
